Which browser are you using? You need to have the "Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 11.0.0" installed if you're using Safari, "PDF Browser Plugin 2.4.4" ( -it.com/pluginpdf/) installed if you're using Firefox, and nothing at all if you're using Google chrome. The Adobe plugin is installed when you install Adobe Reader XI, but you'll have to download the Schubert plugin to use with Firefox. These plugins will allow you to view pdfs online as well as save and/or print.Good luck,Clinton

I'm a student and I'm constantly opening up PDFs for homework. I often end up downloading multiple files, after clicking on a link, each time I start working. Is there any way to set Chrome to only open PDFs and not download them?

The reason may be the HTTP Content-Disposition header. If the site admin/developer set this header to attachment (instead of inline), it tells the browser that the content should be downloaded directly.

Or maybe the HTTP Content-Type header is not set to application/pdf but instead to application/octet-stream - rendering the browser unable to automatically open the PDF, leaving it only the download option.

In Google Chrome go to Settings. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the hyperlink for Show Advanced Settings. From there scroll down until you find the "Download" section. Uncheck the box where it asks where to save each file before downloading. Close Chrome and reopen. You should now be able to have the PDF open without prompting to save it.

Then scroll down to PDF Documents and check: Open PDF files in the default PDF viewer application application. (Uncheck this box if you want PDFs to open automatically when you click them.)

I don't have the "whether to save each file before downloading" question on advanced settings - only where to save the file. However - I find that if I click on a pdf and chrome asks where to save it, if I say "cancel" and then click the pdf again it simply shows it with downloading it!Hope this helps.

**Note: This will open documents in your default PDF viewer application. So you will need Adobe Acrobat / Reader, Bluebeam or Foxit set as your default PDF viewer in order for this setup to work properly with FileOpen protected documents.

If you are using Mac OSx 10.8+ protected documents can no longer be viewed in Safari. The best practice is to open the protected document using the "Open with a Different Viewer" button in Firefox (image below).

Several iOS and iPadOS users have reported they are unable to open and view PDF files on the iPhone or iPad. For example, users have said that they could not open PDF attachments in Mail when they try to open them.

Before we start, it is important to identify if the problem PDF document is corrupted. Are you having this problem with all PDF documents or with a certain PDF document? If you are having this problem with some PDF documents, it is possible that those PDF documents may be corrupted. These files cannot be opened if they are corrupted. Perhaps the PDF file you could not open was not downloaded properly. You may want to obtain (re-download etc) the file again. For example, if you are unable to open a PDF email attachment, ask the sender to send it again. If you are certain that the PDf files are not corrupted and if you are still having issues, then continue.

4. Some third-party apps may cause this problem. This problem app may act as a default PDF reader thus preventing you from opening your PDF files. You may need to find and remove the problematic app. The following apps are known to cause this PDF problem. If you have any of them on your iPhone or iPad, uninstall, then restart your device and try again:

I have been having the same problem. It has been caused by the last update because I can open old pdf files but the latest pdf files will not open on my IPad. This has rendered this apple product redundant.

I had the problem too, after upgrade from IOS 13.2 to IPad OS 13.2.3, I could nit open the pdf-file. I was able to save it like a document, and have a vuew after that, but this was not the best way. A few hours ago, a specialist read in one comment, that other users had same problems. We deleated the App WinZip and the App Alibaba from my device. After that, the programms works on the right way. Best regards, good luck.

Some web browsers (like Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge) do not open PDF files in Adobe Reader. They use other software. Use only Adobe Reader 10 or higher to open these PDF forms. If you have problems opening a PDF on our website, download the file to your own computer. To do this, follow the download instructions:

In most cases, Google Chrome's PDF file viewer is turned on by default. And it can be a convenient way to view PDFs as quickly as possible, but if you'd prefer to download copies instead, you can turn off the PDF viewer to make this happen automatically.
